Colorado’s Renewable Energy Milestone Looks Different When Coal Outages Are Counted

By Sarah Montalbano | Independence Institute On July 9, 2026, I wrote an article for the Independence Institute breaking down the math behind Colorado’s renewable energy milestone in Q1 2026 and explaining why it is largely driven by the Comanche 3 coal outage, rather than a surge in wind and solar generation. For Coloradans, it’s worth checking if milestones like these are real, because figures like these are cited as proof that the state can shed its remaining coal and natural gas without consequences for reliability and affordability. The article’s main point, which was supported with EIA generation data, was that Colorado produced less in-state electricity in Q1 2026, and therefore the share of electricity generated by wind and solar looked larger beca...

Hunters and Anglers Rally Behind Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish

By Chris Dorsey | The Denver Gazette For generations, Coloradans hunted elk, caught trout and managed wildlife without consulting a constitutional attorney. That was before wildlife management became a recurring statewide election issue, replete with consultants, national pressure groups and enough political mail to denude an aspen grove.   Now comes Initiative 302, the proposed “Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish,” driven by sportsmen who have concluded that activities legal today may require constitutional protection to remain legal tomorrow. Supporters submitted more than 180,000 signatures on July 8, well above the 124,238 valid signatures required. The secretary of state has until Sept. 2 to verify them. Nothing says “settled Colorado tradition” quite li...

Colorado campaign connects hungry families with local farmers

By Scott K. James | Commentary, Scott's Sheet A Colorado campaign aims to connect local producers with families facing hunger, proving that neighborly common sense can still do useful work. There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over a kitchen table when the grocery money runs out before the groceries do. Parents know that quiet. It is the sound of someone mentally moving numbers around, stretching one dinner into two and wondering whether the kids will notice that the cereal box is mostly optimism and cardboard dust. A few miles away, a Colorado farmer or rancher may be doing some difficult math of his own. The crop is ready. The cattle have been fed. The work has already been done. The buyer, however, is never guaranteed. You would think connecting ...

Senate panel votes to hold Fauci in contempt as investigators obtain COVID-era phone

By Jefferey Jaxen | Commentary, Jefferey Jaxen (Substack) *BREAKING: Fauci has been held in contempt of Congress by an 8-5 vote. Next steps for the fast-tracked rstates that the President of the Senate, Vice President JD Vance, "shall certify" the committee's referral and report directly to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia at the Department of Justice. Limited hangout: A public relations and media strategy where an organization or government admits to a portion of a damaging truth after a cover-up fails. By releasing controlled, selective facts, they satisfy public curiosity and prevent deeper investigation while keeping key secrets hidden. Today is the vote heard around the world. It’s unclear at this point if the Justice Department would act on that ref...

White House Pushes Congress To Strengthen Welfare Fraud Laws After Task Force Findings

By: Breccan F. Thies | The Federalist Welfare programs were created in a ‘high trust’ America that no longer exists. THE WHITE HOUSE — Vice President J.D. Vance has been leading the charge against billions in taxpayer fraud. But to mobilize the entire federal government in combating the theft, Vance said Wednesday, Congress needs to create harsher punishments for fraudsters and force states to share data for welfare recipients. Vance hosted a roundtable with members of Congress at the White House midweek, attempting to hammer out plans for legislation to strengthen the executive branch’s ability to investigate fraud and expand prosecutors’ options to penalize Americans and illegals committing fraud. Since the start of Vance’s anti-fraud task force, the gr...

Government intervention comes at a price

By Cory Gaines | Commentary, Colorado Accountability Project I came across the chart mentioned in the first link below during my wanderings about the internet. The link is to a blog post put out by HumanProgress.org, an offshoot of the Cato Institute a Libertarian think tank.I want to call your attention mainly to the graph embedded in the blog post. This is attached as screenshot 1. To help you orient yourself, this is a graph of the rise (or fall) in prices for a variety of goods and services in a time series from the year 2000 on. The scale is given as a percent increase (positive numbers), or decrease (negative numbers). It makes sense that prices change over time (how many of us had grandparents who quoted the price of a chocolate bar, how many of us will ...

Senate Investigators Secure Fauci Government Cellphone in Expanding COVID Probe

By Mariane Angela | Breitbart A Senate committee led by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has obtained a forensic copy of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s cellphone. The Department of Health and Human Services handed over the device data to the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. The development follows the release of Fauci’s personal journals after HHS turned them over to Congress. Johnson’s office said the cellphone dates back to Fauci’s tenure as head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The device is now overseen by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has long accused Fauci of protecting the pharmaceutical industry and undermining individual freedoms. READ THE FULL ARTICLE AT BREITBART

New Colorado Gun Restrictions Slow Sales and Frustrate Lawful Buyers

By: Danielle Kreutter | Denver7 Denver7's South Metro reporter Danielle Kreutter spoke to the manager at Englewood's The Shootist about the business impact of SB25-003. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Gun stores in Colorado are already seeing the impact of a new gun law that places new limits on certain semi-automatic weapons that went into effect at the beginning of this month. Business has been slow at The Shootist Gun Range in Englewood. It's a stark change compared to the record breaking sales they saw in the last few weeks. The new law makes it illegal to sell certain semi-automatic guns without the buyer first getting an eligibility card from a sheriff, then taking additional safety and education courses. Bennet Agrees To Settlement Over Improper Campaign Spending On Travel

By Marianne Goodland | Colorado Politics U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s gubernatorial campaign has agreed to pay a $7,433 fine for using his Senate campaign account to pay for gubernatorial campaign travel expenses. The July 31 settlement includes an admission by Bennet and his campaign that they violated state campaign finance laws. The settlement is tied to multiple complaints filed last year. The complaints said Bennet traveled for his gubernatorial campaign in 2025, paying for it with funds from his U.S. Senate campaign account. READ THE FULL ARTICLE AT COLORADO POLITICS

Colorado Records 17th Wolf Death After Livestock Attacks

By: Marianne Goodland | Colorado Politics   A yearling male wolf in Grand County has become the 17th wolf to die in Colorado in the past two years. Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that its staff killed the wolf on Aug. 4 because it was believed to be responsible for killing four calves in Jackson and Grand counties between June 29 and Aug. 1. The state agency’s announcement said the producers had pursued nonlethal measures to minimize conflict with the wolf. Ranchers have told Colorado Politics that those minimization efforts are ineffective. The wolf killed on Tuesday is the second mortality in 10 days. Another wolf had been found dead in northwest Colorado, according to a CPW announcement, but no further details were made available. READ THE FUL...
