Colorado Voter Registration Is Underway Ahead of Nov. 3 Election

By Justin George | The Colorado Sun Coloradans have until Oct. 26 to register for a mail ballot ahead of the Nov. 3 election, but same-day registration is available through Election Day. It’s National Voter Registration Day, and Colorado voters have multiple ways to register before Election Day on Nov. 3. How to register To register to vote in Colorado, people must provide their Colorado driver’s license number, the last four digits of their Social Security number or present another valid form of identification to their county clerk and recorder’s office or the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office. If the form of ID doesn’t confirm someone’s citizenship, a person must affirm under penalty of perjury that they are a U.S. citizen. To receive a ballot in t...

Only Congress can tax you. So why are unelected regulators doing it?

By Jay Davidson | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice "I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power." —Thomas Jefferson (1820) A battle of wills has been developing over the past 100 years, actually longer. It's a war between ideas, principles, philosophy and is the seminal event for our children's children. In truth, this conflict is eternal. Once we realize the dividing lines, our life philosophy comes clear. What type of government best suits the concept that Jefferson (the...

What Amendment 87 Could Mean for Broncos Players and Colorado Employers

By Jon Caldara | Commentary, Colorado Politics Do you want the Broncos to win the Super Bowl? Then you’d better hope Amendment 87 — which brings back Colorado’s economy-strangling “graduated” income tax — loses at the ballot box this fall. Seriously. Forget Republicans and Democrats. Forget tax policy. This is about Xs and Os — and whether Denver can afford the players who execute them and win a Super Bowl. Every successful business has star employees: rare talents without whom the enterprise simply doesn’t work. Same goes for an NFL franchise. Every business has star employees the whole operation is built around. Sometimes that star is the chief executive. No Henry Ford, no assembly line, no affordable car. No Steve Jobs, no iPhone — foldable or otherwis...

Supreme Court Blocks Postal Service Changes for Mail-In Ballots

By Misty Severi | Just the News The majority of justices merely determined that the administration's position was unlikely to succeed. The Supreme Court blocked President Donald Trump's mail-in voting order on Monday, allowing a lower court's ruling to remain in effect. The ruling, which marked a major blow to the Trump administration, blocked proposed changes to the United States Postal Service that would require states to submit mail-in voter lists to the service. The service would then refuse delivery of ballots to recipients not on the list. READ THE FULL ARTICLE AT JUST THE NEWS

Right to hunt: The strange branding of Colorado’s sensible-conservation group

By Chris Dorsey | Commentary, The Outdoor Wire Modern politics has a gift for parodying itself, but even by Colorado standards, this one is hard to improve upon: the campaign warning voters against a constitutional right to hunt and fish has found itself with a hunter delivering the message. Enter Eric Washburn, president of the newly formed Colorado Hunters and Anglers for Sensible Wildlife Conservation, who has come forward to explain why hunters should be alarmed by the prospect of protecting hunting. Washburn says he hunts big game, holds multiple Colorado licenses, and has hunted waterfowl. Fine. Nobody needs to inspect his freezer. The interesting question isn't whether Eric Washburn hunts; it's how a professional public-affairs consultant with a long record of advocating w...

Weiser Files 82nd Lawsuit Against Trump Administration Over Immigration Rule

By Thelma Grimes | Colorado Politics Colorado has filed another lawsuit against the Trump administration, this time targeting a rule that allows immigration agents to consider more factors in deciding green card applications. Joining 21 other states and the District of Columbia, Colorado’s state attorney general said the lawsuit aims to halt the Trump administration’s new public charge rule, which, he insisted, would allow immigration officials to “punish” immigrants for lawful use of public benefits.   The proposed rule change centers on “public charge,” a term dating to the Immigration Act of 1882 that allows the government to deny a green card to a person likely to become primarily dependent on the government for assistance. Immigration officers have weighed on...

Wyoming Border Patrol Turns Colorado Jokes Into Viral Business

By Zakary Sonntag | Cowboy State Daily Wyoming Border Patrol is a hit on social media. Viral videos with millions of views lampooning Colorado have turned the Laramie apparel company into a media brand. "Even a Coloradan can become a productive member of Wyoming society," its latest video says. A Colorado woman named McKenzie recently arrived at Wyoming's southern border with a familiar set of behavioral issues. She wore Patagonia clothing, made campsite reservations months in advance, and held a delusional belief that mixed greens are a main course. But don’t worry, because she's being rehabilitated in order to become a productive member of Wyoming society. That's the premise of the "Adopt a Coloradan” campaign, the latest hit from Wyoming Border Patro...

Democrat Jessica Killin’s Attack Ads Mischaracterize Crank’s Wedding Gift Waiver

By Jesse Paul | The Colorado Sun Democrat Jessica Killin is running to unseat Republican US Rep. Jeff Crank in the 5th Congressional District. She would be the first Democrat to represent the district. Democrat Jessica Killin, who is running to flip Colorado’s 5th Congressional District this year, launched her first attack ads against Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank, both of which feature a misleading claim about the Colorado Springs congressman. The narrator in the pair of 30-second spots claims that Crank asked for a special waiver “allowing him to take gifts from his lobbyist buddies behind closed doors” and “without disclosing them.”  There are some big asterisks behind those assertions.  Crank did apply for a gift...

Case: Why Colorado’s Next Attorney General Must Investigate the Flawed Voting System

By John Case | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado voters deserve to know the truth about our voting system. Based on the evidence cited below, this letter calls for our next Attorney General to conduct an independent investigation of the voting system and publish the results to the people. The evidence: Please watch the 21 minute video at https://vimeo.com/1220653027 in which computer expert Mark Cook demonstrates how bad actors can control Colorado election outcomes without being detected. Votes in 62 counties are counted on computers leased from Liberty Vote, Inc., formerly known as Dominion. Federal standards prohibit use of components in critical infrastructure that are supplied by America's enemies or are subject to foreign control. Supply chain expert Co...
