Amendment 83 would enshrine Colorado hunting and fishing after 17 attempts to change the law

By Greg Walcher | Commentary, GregWalcher.com The Common Sense Institute (CSI) just published an analysis of the economic impact of hunting and fishing in Colorado, to help inform debate on a November ballot measure called Amendment 83. It would enshrine in the state constitution the right of the people to hunt and fish. As one of the report’s co-authors, I attended a forum where we were asked, “Why not just eliminate hunting and fishing and let nature take over?” Many Coloradans may not fully understand what the absence of hunting and fishing might look like. It is a scenario they do not want. Amendment 83 appears simply to restate existing laws and processes. It would amend the Colorado constitution to make hunting and fishing a right for Colorado’s 874,000 fishing licen...

Michael Allen Calls for Colorado First Approach to Attorney General’s Office

By Thelma Grimes | The Denver Gazette Republican argues Colorado officials have been too focused fighting Trump. Michael Allen said his campaign for Colorado attorney general is rooted in a simple premise: the state’s top lawyer should focus on Colorado, regardless of who occupies the White House. The Republican candidate, a Colorado native and the elected district attorney for the 4th Judicial District, is vying for the position against Democrat Jena Griswold, the state’s current secretary of state. During the primary, Griswold has repeatedly told voters that she will focus on fighting the Trump administration as attorney general. That messaging permeates her campaign against Allen. Allen, who grew up in Thornton and Arvada and...

Poll Shows Evans And Rutinel Locked In Tight Race For Colorado’s 8th District

By Jesse Paul | The Colorado Sun The poll was conducted by a Republican firm on behalf of a conservative political nonprofit that doesn’t reveal its donors and is backing Evans, the district’s Republican incumbent. The race between Republican U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans and his Democratic challenger, former state Rep. Lawsuit Challenges Colorado Graduated Income Tax Measure Over Petition Signatures

By Marianne Goodland | The Denver Gazette A lawsuit filed Wednesday in Denver District Court seeks to strike the proposed graduated income tax measure from the November ballot. One of Denver’s major law firms filed the lawsuit on behalf of Michael Andre Hancock of Arapahoe County, who challenged the ballot measure during the title board process earlier this year. The defendants are Secretary of State Jena Griswold and Amendment 87 proponents Chris deGruy Kennedy of the Bell Policy Center and Kiyana Newell of New Era Colorado. The lawsuit challenges how Protect Colorado’s Future — the coalition behind the measure — gathered its signatures. It claims the group failed to file training certificates for some of its pa...

Mental health and politics: Does how we interpret adversity shape both?

By Brian C. Joondeph, M.D. | Commentary, Rasmussen Reports Baby boomers grew up in a different mental-health culture. Anxiety, depression, and emotional struggles certainly existed, but they weren’t routine topics of conversation. The prevailing advice was often some variation of “suck it up and keep moving.” That wasn’t necessarily healthy. Genuine psychiatric illness went untreated, and stigma kept many people from seeking help. Fortunately, much of that stigma has disappeared. But has the pendulum swung too far? Today, mental health is everywhere. There are therapists, medications, support groups, Reddit communities, and social-media influencers devoted to virtually every psychiatric diagnosis imaginable. Mental-health terminology has even become part of how some people pub...

MAHA Coalition Pressures Trump and Kennedy Over mRNA Policy

By Greg Piper | Just the News Signatories including politicians Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene, media personality Tucker Carlson, mRNA pioneer Robert Malone, Louisiana deputy surgeon general and doctors punished for COVID heterodoxy. When the second Trump administration refused to settle a lawsuit to reinstate in-person prescribing requirements for an abortion pill — instead launching a safety review with no end date — pro-life activists warned it would depress GOP voter turnout this fall. The old guard of the Make America Healthy Again movement, focused on reducing the power of the pharmaceutical industry and subjecting vaccines to far higher scrutiny, delivered an even more blunt message to President Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary...

Colorado doctors shouldn’t be conscripted into gender transition surgery

By Wayne Laugesen | Commentary, Wayne's Word Colorado will not let a counselor talk. It will force a surgeon to cut. A group of doctors and dentists just filed suit against Colorado in federal court because the state is trying to conscript them. That we need this lawsuit explains how far Colorado has transitioned from obeying federal civil rights protections to thumbing its nose at them. Wayne's Word is a reader-supported publication. To support this work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. The Christian Medical & Dental Associations and Button Family Practice in Cañon City say the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act requires medical offices that perform certain surgeries — mastectomies, hysterectomies, and other works of real medicine — to perform those same sur...
