Trump’s election orders aren’t a constitutional crisis yet — 5 things that would trigger one

By Bob Cooper, COIFFE Director | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice President Donald Trump has issued two sweeping executive orders on federal elections — covering citizenship verification, voter-registration records, and mail-in ballots. Dozens of states have pushed back. Federal courts have blocked some parts and allowed others. So the question everyone is asking: Is this a constitutional crisis? The honest answer — the one that will hold up when the left tries to knock it down — is this: Not yet. But we are one or two bad decisions away from one. Here's what's really happening, and the five scenarios that would push us over the edge. What Trump actually ordered Two executive orders reshaped the fight: Executive Order 14248 (March 25, 2025) — "Preserving and Protec...

Colorado Voter Registration Is Underway Ahead of Nov. 3 Election

By Justin George | The Colorado Sun Coloradans have until Oct. 26 to register for a mail ballot ahead of the Nov. 3 election, but same-day registration is available through Election Day. It’s National Voter Registration Day, and Colorado voters have multiple ways to register before Election Day on Nov. 3. How to register To register to vote in Colorado, people must provide their Colorado driver’s license number, the last four digits of their Social Security number or present another valid form of identification to their county clerk and recorder’s office or the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office. If the form of ID doesn’t confirm someone’s citizenship, a person must affirm under penalty of perjury that they are a U.S. citizen. To receive a ballot in t...

Case: Why Colorado’s Next Attorney General Must Investigate the Flawed Voting System

By John Case | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado voters deserve to know the truth about our voting system. Based on the evidence cited below, this letter calls for our next Attorney General to conduct an independent investigation of the voting system and publish the results to the people. The evidence: Please watch the 21 minute video at https://vimeo.com/1220653027 in which computer expert Mark Cook demonstrates how bad actors can control Colorado election outcomes without being detected. Votes in 62 counties are counted on computers leased from Liberty Vote, Inc., formerly known as Dominion. Federal standards prohibit use of components in critical infrastructure that are supplied by America's enemies or are subject to foreign control. Supply chain expert Co...

Colorado Voters to Decide More Than a Dozen Ballot Measures Including Tax Hikes, Immigration and Youth Sports

By John Frank | Axios Denver Colorado voters will decide more than a dozen ballot measures this November, from remaking the state's tax system to banning gender-affirming surgery for minors. Why it matters: Beyond the candidates, voters will have a direct say on major changes to taxes, immigration, criminal justice and other hot-button issues. State of play: The marquee measure would scrap Colorado's flat 4.4% income tax in favor of a graduated system that would raise taxes on those making $500,000 or more a year. Legislative fiscal analysts estimate the Democratic-led measure would generate an additional $2 billion a year, with the money reserved for education, health care and early child care. The other side: A countermeasure backed by ...

Initiative 362 Would Require Added Identity Check on Colorado Mail Ballots

By Jesse Paul | The Colorado Sun The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said Wednesday that the supporters of Initiative 362 turned in a sufficient number of voter signatures to get the question on this year’s ballot, Colorado voters will be asked in November whether to amend the state constitution to require that people verify their identity when submitting mail ballots by including the last four digits of their Social Security number or their full driver’s license or state ID number.  The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said Wednesday that the supporters of Initiative 362 turned in a sufficient number of voter signatures to get the question on this year’s ballot. Under the measure, local election judges would be forced to dismiss ballots wit...

Colorado Joins Lawsuit Challenging New Federal Mail Ballot Safeguards Ahead of Midterms

By Thelma Grimes | Colorado Politics Colorado, along with 25 other states, filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Postal Service to challenge a new rule that seeks to restrict the mailing of ballots to American citizens in an eligible voters list. Colorado relies heavily on the mail-in ballot system. As do several states. The U.S. Postal Service recently laid out how it would implement the order, but time is running short to impose major changes with some states beginning to send mail ballots to voters in just a few weeks. A few days ago, the conservative majority of the Supreme Court had cleared the way for President Donald Trump’s executive order, which mandates the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to create those lists — to be give...

Colorado’s dirty voter roll: Following the ballot

By Mike O’Donnell | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice  Colorado relies on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver millions of ballots, but the mail carrier isn't always the last person to handle them. In Part 4, Mike O'Donnell examines Colorado's chain of custody—from group homes and shelters to commercial mail locations, drop boxes and ballot harvesting. Ballot Chain of Custody Because Colorado is a vote-by-mail state, the U.S. Postal Service, as a (mostly) trusted agency of the federal government, is the primary delivery mechanism used to ensure that ballots are delivered to all active status registrants.  Colorado ballots are, for the most part, delivered by U.S. Postal Service workers directly into the home mailboxes or secure mail boxes at local post offi...

Colorado’s dirty voter roll: Where the ballots go

By Mike O’Donnell | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice  Getting on and getting off the voter rolls were the first two questions. In Part 3, Mike O’Donnell turns to where Colorado voter data and ballots go next—through ERIC, out-of-state mailing addresses and overseas voting rules he argues deserve closer scrutiny. The Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) ERIC is a nonprofit membership-based organization currently supported by twenty-six states, including Colorado. Member states share detailed voter rolls and DMV information with ERIC.  Colorado taxpayers pay around $50,000 a year for their membership in ERIC and the (alleged) primary benefit to the state is that ERIC monitors NCOAs that they share with the Colorado Secretary of State although,...

Colorado’s dirty voter roll: Getting off isn’t so easy

By Mike O’Donnell | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Getting onto Colorado's voter rolls is only half the story. In Part 2, Mike O'Donnell examines how names come off the rolls—and why he argues the current process often leaves outdated registrations behind. Centenarian Registrants in Colorado The 2026 World Population Review estimates that there are 890 centenarians (people aged 100 or older) currently living in Colorado.  According to the public Colorado voter roll, the state is home to 1,569 centenarians. Different local news sources identify that three 109 year old individuals potentially and currently share the title of the oldest Coloradan alive today. But according to the public Colorado voter roll, there are thirty-four registrants who are older, t...

Supreme Court Upholds Counting of Mail Ballots Received After Election Day

By: The Washington Stand | The Western Journal A closely-divided U.S. Supreme Court has handed down a critical decision on election integrity, jeopardizing the security of American elections and the sovereignty of the nation. In an opinion released Monday morning in Watson v. Republican National Committee (RNC), the court’s narrow majority ruled that mail-in ballots postmarked by election day may still be counted even if received after election day. “Three federal statutes set the day for the election of Representatives, Senators, and the President,” Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote for the majority. At issue is a Mississippi state law allowing ballots received by mail and postmarked by election day to be counted for up to five days after election day. The RNC argued...
