Highway danger: Non-English truck drivers surge while crashes climb

By Bob Price | Breitbart A report published last week on social media by American Truckers United shows that Texas companies lead the nation in employing drivers who are not proficient in reading and understanding English. Recent crashes, including a multi-fatality crash in the state’s capital city earlier this year, raised the issue to the forefront. “Texas is largely responsible for the truck drivers that don’t speak English on America’s roadways,” American Truckers United posted on social media on Friday. “They are predominantly originating from the state of Texas.” According to the graph posted by the group showing the number of drivers put out of service for failing to meet English Proficiency Standards, Texas is not even close to second-place Illinois. The graph shows nearly...

Phones Out of Classrooms A Rare Point of Unity in Divided Nation

By Jonathan Martin | Commentary, Politico Jonathan Haidt’s “The Anxious Generation” has prompted an unlikely bipartisan revolution to ban phones in classrooms. LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The most consequential bipartisan accomplishment of this decade was hatched in NYU faculty housing and is being fulfilled in conservative and liberal state capitals alike. The legislative victory at hand? Banning phones in classrooms. Until now, it has barely registered amid the tribal trolling that passes for a national political dialogue in the Age of Trump. But as the school year gets fully underway across the country this week, more parents may be able to identify Jonathan Haidt, or at least his groundbreaking book on the risk of children’s access to smartphones, than they can recognize their ow...

The new golden calves: Progressives bow to political idols

By Michael A. Hancock | Commentary, Undercurrent Substack How the Left Turns Leaders Into Gods and Politics Into Religion Idolatry is as old as humanity itself. Ancient Israel bowed before golden calves. Rome worshiped its emperors. Today, American progressives practice their own brand of idolatry—transforming politicians, activists, movements, and bureaucracies into secular saints. These idols are exalted as saviors of society, placed beyond criticism, and treated as the ultimate sources of justice and truth. The only thing they never deliver is actual redemption. The Priesthood of Experts The story begins with intellectuals. W.E.B. Du Bois envisioned the “Talented Tenth,” a vanguard of Black elites who would uplift the race through education and cultural refinement. His idea ...

U.S. Immigrant Numbers Fall for First Time in Decades Amid Trump Enforcement

By Caroline Boda | Just the News (The Center Square) - The foreign-born population in the United States shrunk this year for the first time since the 1960s, according to new data from the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. After rapidly growing for more than 50 years, the number of immigrants living in the U.S. reached a record high of 53.3 million in January 2025. The following months showed a decline of nearly 1.5 million, a likely mark of President Donald Trump’s second-term immigration policies. The new Pew study shows that more people are leaving the U.S. than are entering it, the first time this has happened in more than half a century. The analysis also found that the number of noncitizens in the U.S. illegally reached a record high of 14 million in 2023, a trend which Tru...

1,500 Truckers Pulled Off the Road for Failing English Rule Revived by Trump

By Fred Lucas | The Daily Signal FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Following new guidelines from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to enforce English language proficiency for commercial truck drivers, 1,500 drivers have had their licenses placed out of service by law enforcement, The Daily Signal has learned. “‘America First’ means safety first. Americans are a lot safer on roads alongside truckers who can understand and interpret our traffic signs,” Duffy said in May at the signing of the guidelines. “This commonsense change ensures the penalty for failure to comply is more than a slap on the wrist.”  The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a division of the Transportation Department, has had longstanding English-language proficiency requirements.  ...

Progressive Pundits Push False Narrative After Tragedy

By Michael Schwarz | Commentary, The Western Journal Establishment elites love cheap labor. They always have. Thus, the establishment media routinely gaslights readers and viewers about illegal immigration, a prime source of cheap labor. Now and then, however, even the establishment media cannot help accidentally telling the truth. On Sunday, for instance, in the opening paragraph of a story meant to evoke pathos for the “victims” of last week’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid on the Glenn Valley Foods meat packing plant in Omaha, Nebraska, which netted 76 illegal immigrants, NBC News inadvertently undermined the leftist establishment’s entire immigration narrative. “Every seat in the waiting area of Glenn Valley Foods was occupied with people filling out job applicati...
