Fed Rate Hike Could Squeeze Homebuyers and Renters in Southern Colorado

By Damien Bartonek | KKTV 11 News COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A quarter-point increase in interest rates from the Federal Reserve could make it more expensive for some El Paso County residents to buy a home, while adding pressure to an already strained rental market according to housing experts. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh said inflation remains too high and that recent data have not shown enough improvement to change the central bank’s approach. “The plain fact is that inflation is too high and has been for too long,” Warsh said. “This summer’s inflation readings do not tell me that underlying trends have meaningfully improved.” The Federal Reserve says the rate increase is intended to help bring inflation back toward its 2% target. ...

Newsom Says He Will Sit Out 2028 Race if Harris Runs

By Raquel Coronell Uribe | NBC News The California governor said there was too much “crossover” between his base and Harris’ and that it would be an electoral “gift” for everybody else if they both ran. California Gov. Gavin Newsom made a surprise announcement that he won’t launch a 2028 White House bid if former Vice President Kamala Harris decides to run again. “I wouldn’t run if she ran,” Newsom told CNN in an interview that aired Monday evening. Newsom said running against Harris, a fellow California Democrat who was the state’s attorney general before she became a senator, would be an electoral “gift” for everybody else. “They’d enjoy the hell out of it. Mutual assured destruction. It services no greater good. Why would I do thi...

Emergency Motion Extends Douglas County Ballot Fight With Ballots Already Sent to Printer

By Nicholas Fogleman | The Denver Gazette The legal battle over a Douglas County ballot measure to increase the number of county commissioners is continuing after Rep. Bob Marshall asked a judge to reconsider her rejection of a preliminary injunction that would halt two ballot measures from reaching voters. Marshall filed an emergency motion for reconsideration Sunday, outlining a new legal argument that he said would give the court authority to grant his request. The case stems from actions of the Board of County Commissioners who, in the final days before ballot certification, approved additional language for a citizen-led ballot measure that would increase the board from three members to five and adopted a competing county-initiated measure addressing how commi...

Marx Contests $51,427 Campaign Finance Penalty After Acknowledging Reporting Mistakes

By Deborah Grigsby | The Denver Gazette Colorado Republican gubernatorial candidate Victor Marx hates that his campaign finance troubles have become a “distraction.” The outspoken Republican took to X on Tuesday with a cinematic explainer regarding the potential $51,000 in fines he faces from the Secretary of State for excessive contributions. “We’ve made honest mistakes, and we’ve never tried to hide them,” Marx said. “We’ve also been very transparent about the difficulties we’ve encountered correcting the campaign finance reporting through the Secretary of State system.” The state alleges Marx’s campaign accepted at least 204 contributions over Colorado’s $1,450 per-person contribution limit, totaling $83,560 from 111 different contributors. Marx, in a recent ...

Joondeph: Pediatric gender medicine is cracking under its own evidence

By Brian C. Joondeph, M.D. | Commentary, American Thinker When ideology overrides biology, it isn’t compassion — it’s harm dressed as progress. For nearly a decade, Americans were told to deny what biology, common sense, and their own eyes made plain. Men could become women. Women could become men. Children were fully capable of choosing sterilizing hormones. Puberty blockers were “reversible.” And anyone who questioned any of it was a bigot. It was one of the most aggressive campaigns of magical thinking in modern public life. We were told sex was “assigned at birth,” as if doctors in delivery rooms were rolling dice rather than observing biological reality. Chromosomes, anatomy, and reproductive function were suddenly deemed less important t...

Colorado Voter Registration Is Underway Ahead of Nov. 3 Election

By Justin George | The Colorado Sun Coloradans have until Oct. 26 to register for a mail ballot ahead of the Nov. 3 election, but same-day registration is available through Election Day. It’s National Voter Registration Day, and Colorado voters have multiple ways to register before Election Day on Nov. 3. How to register To register to vote in Colorado, people must provide their Colorado driver’s license number, the last four digits of their Social Security number or present another valid form of identification to their county clerk and recorder’s office or the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office. If the form of ID doesn’t confirm someone’s citizenship, a person must affirm under penalty of perjury that they are a U.S. citizen. To receive a ballot in t...

What Amendment 87 Could Mean for Broncos Players and Colorado Employers

By Jon Caldara | Commentary, Colorado Politics Do you want the Broncos to win the Super Bowl? Then you’d better hope Amendment 87 — which brings back Colorado’s economy-strangling “graduated” income tax — loses at the ballot box this fall. Seriously. Forget Republicans and Democrats. Forget tax policy. This is about Xs and Os — and whether Denver can afford the players who execute them and win a Super Bowl. Every successful business has star employees: rare talents without whom the enterprise simply doesn’t work. Same goes for an NFL franchise. Every business has star employees the whole operation is built around. Sometimes that star is the chief executive. No Henry Ford, no assembly line, no affordable car. No Steve Jobs, no iPhone — foldable or otherwis...

Supreme Court Blocks Postal Service Changes for Mail-In Ballots

By Misty Severi | Just the News The majority of justices merely determined that the administration's position was unlikely to succeed. The Supreme Court blocked President Donald Trump's mail-in voting order on Monday, allowing a lower court's ruling to remain in effect. The ruling, which marked a major blow to the Trump administration, blocked proposed changes to the United States Postal Service that would require states to submit mail-in voter lists to the service. The service would then refuse delivery of ballots to recipients not on the list. READ THE FULL ARTICLE AT JUST THE NEWS

Right to hunt: The strange branding of Colorado’s sensible-conservation group

By Chris Dorsey | Commentary, The Outdoor Wire Modern politics has a gift for parodying itself, but even by Colorado standards, this one is hard to improve upon: the campaign warning voters against a constitutional right to hunt and fish has found itself with a hunter delivering the message. Enter Eric Washburn, president of the newly formed Colorado Hunters and Anglers for Sensible Wildlife Conservation, who has come forward to explain why hunters should be alarmed by the prospect of protecting hunting. Washburn says he hunts big game, holds multiple Colorado licenses, and has hunted waterfowl. Fine. Nobody needs to inspect his freezer. The interesting question isn't whether Eric Washburn hunts; it's how a professional public-affairs consultant with a long record of advocating w...
